Humanities
The Humanities Faculty at Chase Grammar School has a strong focus on developing critical thinking and academic writing skills. Students at Key Stage 3 are encouraged to integrate their knowledge between subjects, such as learning about the mechanisms behind volcanos in Geography at the same time as learning about their effects on Pompeii in Classical Civilisation.
Our Humanities staff are highly knowledgeable, with a wide range of skills to support students for examinations: with experience marking for the examination boards, EPQ supervision experience, UCAS guidance and more, we pride ourselves on preparing students for further education.

Classical Civilisation
Classical Civilisation follows the OCR specification at GCSE and A Level. Classical Civilisation offers a rich and varied range of topics for study, with a blend of history, culture, literature, art and architecture. At GCSE, students study Myth and Religion and Roman Daily Life as options; at A Level, students study World of the Hero (Odyssey), Love and Relationships, and Imperial Image. Students who have studied Classical Civilisation at Chase Grammar have moved on to a range of courses at University, including Biology at Oxford, Law and more."
Religious Studies and Philosophy
Religious Studies and Philosophy at Chase Grammar School has been designed not only to teach about religious beliefs, but also to consider key issues in 20th Century philosophy, such as the moral questions about God, as well as whether civil disobedience during the Civil Rights struggle could be justified. At GCSE, students follow the AQA specification, learning Buddhism and Christianity, alongside themes A, B, C and D. At A Level, the course blends philosophy, religion and Classical history. Following the Edexcel syllabus, students learn the Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Ethics, and New Testament Studies - which explores not only the historical figure of Jesus, but also the how the Bible was composed. Students who have studied Religious Studies at Chase Grammar School have moved on to prestigious courses such as Law, P.P.E and Anthropology at university.
Geography
Geography at Chase Grammar School explores the many fascinating topics from both human and physical geography. Students in Key Stage 3 learn about sustainability, volcanos, the population and physical features of India and more. Recent students have won competitions such as the Young Environmentalist competition, for their work about plastic packaging and online shopping. Many students have enjoyed the "Learning to Fly" enrichment, which allows students to practice the skills needed to fly a plane while communicating with air traffic control.
At GCSE, students follow the AQA specification which includes Living with the Physical Environment, Challenges in the Human Environment, and Fieldwork. At A Level, students follow the AQA specification through the modules: Urban Environment, Changing Places, Globalisation, Coasts, Hazards and Water and Carbon. Students benefit greatly from the experience of the Geography team, who mark for the examination boards.
Students who have studied Geography at Chase Grammar School have moved on to study Biology at Oxford, or to careers involving implementing sustainable practice in Mumbai.
History
The History course has been designed to teach some of the most important areas of British and world history. Students learn about the Tudors, Japan and Witchcraft in Year 7; and the First World War, Nazi Germany and the Cold War in Year 8, using primary and secondary sources to develop a broad understanding of the topic. At GCSE, students follow the AQA specification, including the Gulf and Afghanistan, Germany, Elizabethan England, and Migration, Empires and the People. At A level, students follow the OCR specification, studying Britain between 1930-1997, Witchcraze, and Apartheid and Reconciliation: South Africa, where students gain greatly from the teacher's doctorate level expertise on the topic. Students who have studied History at Chase have moved on to such excellent universities as London School of Economics.
Latin has previously been offered as an extra GCSE for dedicated students.
We run a wide variety of outside trips to stimulate interest and develop key skills, including trips to Penarth, Lichfield, Carding Mill Valley, Tamworth Castle, and Tutbury Castle and Church.
