Music

Music at Chase Grammar is a thriving, vibrant department. Housed in its own building in the school grounds, the Music Department boasts excellent facilities, including a suite of practice rooms, a large recital room, a teaching room, and a computer room.

As an integral part of school life, Music is the foundation for many of our school events and activities, and it is a cornerstone of the Chase Passport System. We are proud of the quality of our music-making and the wide variety of Enrichment opportunities that we are able to provide for our students. In addition to our curriculum provision, our team of peripatetic teachers offer tuition on a variety of instruments and pupils are able to take part in a wide range of different choirs, ensembles and clubs. Our ultimate aim is to produce confident, creative and collaborative young people who are inspired by music; who are curious and knowledgeable about the musical world around them; and who have developed the skills and expertise for success in their future lives.

Budding musical theatre performers can take part in our School Musical Production, which we produce each year in collaboration with the Drama Department.

Student-led bands and our school choirs and ensembles have numerous opportunities to perform to an audience and we have at least one formal concert each term to work towards.

We have a team of six peripatetic music teachers who are specialists in the instruments they teach pupils at Chase Grammar on a weekly basis and opportunities are given for them to perform at our weekly assemblies, house music competitions, local and national young musician competitions, church services and open-mic nights. Our teachers enter pupils for external graded exams such as ABRSM and Trinity.

At Chase Grammar, we teach OCR GCSE Music and Eduqas A Level Music, and every pupil in and below Y8 gets a 1 hour academic music lesson each week.  We use technology such as Garage band and Sibelius for our composition, and all pupils are welcome to join our music making whether they take music at GCSE/A level or not.
