Drama

Drama fosters clear and confident self-expression among students through verbal and non-verbal communication, enhancing their public speaking, active listening, and body language skills. This discipline not only cultivates communication abilities but also prepares students for life beyond Chase Grammar School by promoting creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

At Chase Grammar School, every student participates in Drama once a week during Years 7 and 8 until they select their options. Those who choose GCSE or A-Level Drama will have the chance to attend theatre trips throughout their course, allowing them to experience live performances.

We follow the AQA specifications for both GCSE and A-Level Drama, which provide an excellent balance between practical activities, such as devising theatre and performing scripted pieces, and theoretical knowledge through a written examination. Opting for A-Level and GCSE Drama opens numerous career pathways, including stage management, costume design, directing, and acting. Students who pursue Drama at GCSE or A-Level thoroughly enjoy the course and often either enter drama-related careers or apply the skills acquired to other professional fields.

A-level Drama is a new course at the school and we have just this year taken out first A-level cohort through with a pass rate of 100% A*-C.

At Chase Grammar School, we host annual school productions that have been a success year on year, offering students the chance to perform before an audience or engage with the technical aspects of set design. In addition to school productions, there are various opportunities for students to showcase their work, such as the Performance Showcase, where friends and family are warmly invited to enjoy an evening of theatrical entertainment. We also provide other enrichments such as lower school and upper school Drama clubs where students enjoy devising and exploring a variety of texts.

Students that do Drama GCSE or A-level thoroughly enjoy the course and either go into drama careers or use it as a skill and apply that to other career pathways.
